Helena Carvalhão Buescu is a Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Lisbon, with a focus on 19th and 20th century Portuguese literature and theoretical frameworks in comparative and world literature. She has held visiting professorships at King’s College London, Indiana University, and institutions in Brazil, China, and the UK.

Her research explores cosmopolitanism, transnational literary networks, and modern Portuguese fiction. She has over 100 essays in international periodicals and leads the project Comparative World Literature – Perspectives in Portuguese. Her publications analyze intersections between European and Lusophone literatures, including critical editions of works by Camões and Herberto Helder.
