Helen Sykes

Helen Sykes serves as a Lecturer in Policing within the School of Law, Policing and Social Sciences at Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), having joined in 2020 after 32 years of service as a police officer and police staff member.

Her research centers on operational policing methodologies and advancing equality and diversity initiatives within law enforcement contexts. These interests directly leverage her extensive frontline experience to address critical contemporary challenges in policing practices.

Ms Sykes contributes to the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship programme, initially serving as a work-based assessor for two years before transitioning to her current lecturer role in July 2022. Her practical expertise significantly enhances curriculum delivery and professional development for future officers.
