Helen Omand

Helen Omand is a Lecturer in the MA Art Psychotherapy program at Goldsmiths, University of London, within the Social, Therapeutic and Community Studies (STaCS) department. Her work focuses on studio art therapy, arts in health contexts, and the intersection of artistic practice with therapeutic interventions. She is HCPC-registered as an art psychotherapist with experience across clinical and community settings.

Her research explores the role of art in medical consultations, particularly in communicating pain experiences, and the impact of neoliberal policies on therapeutic spaces. Key publications include Contemporary Practice in Studio Art Therapy (2022) and articles on visual methodologies in therapy. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and participates in the Winnicott Wednesdays Collective, an artist-therapist group.

Recent work examines digital therapeutic spaces during the pandemic and the socio-political dimensions of art therapy practice. Her contributions bridge clinical practice, artistic expression, and healthcare innovation.
