Dr. Helen Eccleston is a Senior Lecturer in Business and Management and Programme Leader for the BSc Business and Management at the Business School. She serves as the Strategic Employability Lead, overseeing the School’s employability strategy and collaborating with SMEs, government bodies, and major employers. Her roles include coordinating student placements, leading employer advisory panels, and designing initiatives like careers fairs and innovation labs. She holds External Examiner positions at Birmingham City University (2024–present) and University College Cork (2022–present).
Education: PhD in Management (Entrepreneurship and Strategy) from the University of Central Lancashire (2021), PGCert in Teaching in Higher Education (2022), MSc in Business Management (2017), and BA in English Language (2013) from Cardiff University.
Research focuses on small family businesses, exploring strategizing, emotional dimensions of entrepreneurship, and affective practices. Recent work in Human Relations examines the political role of affect in entrepreneuring. She presents internationally, including at the PraxisAuril Conference 2023 on inclusive placement strategies.
Contributions include co-authoring the School’s Small Business Charter application (5-year award) and leading modules like BUS2019 (Employability) and BUS3037 (Organizational Misbehavior). Research groups include Community Owned Businesses and SustainNET, addressing value creation and sustainable practices.
