Asia Akram

Asia Akram is a Lecturer in Business and Management at the Business School of Edge Hill University since 2020. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Computer Sciences from Arid Agriculture University, an MSc in Management and HRM from Birmingham City University, and a PhD in 'Structure and Agency: Making sense of structure and agency interplay and giving voice to the career experiences of women working in the banking sector of Pakistan.' Her professional background combines academic research with roles in finance and higher education operations.

Her teaching focuses on modules such as Enterprise and Innovation, Human Resource Management, Strategic Management, and Corporate Social Responsibility. She integrates interdisciplinary perspectives from her technical background in computing and her management expertise. She contributes to initiatives like the Leading Lancashire Program, supporting SME managers in Lancashire through executive education in leadership and organizational challenges.

Research interests center on leadership, gender, power dynamics, and identity, particularly exploring how cultural narratives shape women’s careers in gendered organizational contexts like Pakistan’s banking sector. Her work draws on theorists such as Durkheim, Bourdieu, and Foucault. She is affiliated with research groups including SustainNET, Practice in Coaching & Teaching Community Owned Businesses, and Culture Power and Inclusion.
