Heitor Almeida is a Professor of Finance and holds the Stanley C. and Joan J. Golder Distinguished Chair in Corporate Finance at the Gies College of Business, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He also serves as Academic Director of the iDegree Programs and holds professorships in the Department of Economics (College of Liberal Arts & Sciences), European Union Center, and Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies. His research focuses on financial constraints, liquidity management, innovation, and corporate governance. Almeida earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago in 2000.
His research explores topics such as the real effects of credit lines, liquidity management during crises, and the impact of healthcare policies like Obamacare on firm performance. He has authored influential studies on share repurchases, working capital strategies, and corporate resiliency. Almeida serves as an associate editor for leading journals including the Journal of Financial Intermediation and Journal of Banking and Finance.
Key awards include the Smith Breeden Prize (2008) and GSAM Best Research Paper Award (2007). His work bridges theoretical frameworks with empirical analysis, addressing critical questions in corporate finance and macroeconomics.
