Heather Vitko

Heather Vitko (PhD, RN, CNL, CCRN, TCRN, CHSE) is an Associate Professor and MSN Program Director at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, specializing in Acute and Tertiary Care. With over 20 years as a critical care nurse at a Level 1 trauma center, she focuses on clinical education, quality improvement, and mentorship.

Her research investigates infection prevention through novel strategies and non-malignant brain tumor survivorship, alongside exploring non-pharmacological methods to reduce student anxiety. She actively applies evidence-based practices to improve patient outcomes and unit policies.

Dr. Vitko teaches courses including Pathophysiologic Foundations for Nursing Care, Clinical Nurse Leader Practicum, and Manuscript Development. She also volunteers at the Highlands Health Free Medical Clinic and is a member of the National Nurse Honor Guard.
