Heather Raquel Phillips

Heather Raquel Phillips is a Lecturer at the Stuart Weitzman School of Design (University of Pennsylvania) and in the Visual & Performing Arts Department at Lincoln University. A first-generation college graduate and Afro-Boricuan artist, she focuses on marginalized communities, using interdisciplinary practices to explore power, sexuality, and deviance through visual arts.

Her work has been featured in publications like Hyperallergic, ArtForum.com, and The Black Scholar. Awards include the 2017 Leeway Foundation Art & Change Grant and 2020 Transformation Award. She established the home-based textile gallery “Pinch-hitter Projects” (2020) and was a Visiting Scholar at the Leather Archives & Museum (2019).
