Hasan Siddiqui

Hasan Siddiqui is an Assistant Professor of South Asian History in the Department of Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Arts. He specializes in early-modern intellectual history with particular focus on South Asia. His academic journey culminated in a PhD in History from the University of Chicago.

Dr. Siddiqui's research interests span the history of encyclopedias, the history of political thought, and the history of the book within the South Asian context. His scholarly work examines intellectual developments during the early modern period, particularly focusing on concepts of rights and governance in the Mughal and early colonial eras.

His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on intellectual history of South Asia, with particular attention to rights discourse in pre-colonial and colonial contexts. His work bridges historical scholarship with contemporary theoretical frameworks in political thought.

His research program is supported by multiple competitive grants that enable scholarly exchange and original research in his field.

He maintains an active presence in the academic community through his editorial work and by organizing the UBC South Asia Research Colloquium, which facilitates scholarly exchange among researchers focused on South Asia.
