About
Harry Smith is an Associate Tutor in the Faculty of Science at the University of East Anglia (UEA), affiliated with the School of Environmental Sciences. His research focuses on the policy and governance of greenhouse gas removal (GGR) methods, critical to achieving net-zero goals. He holds a PhD from UEA and Master of Environmental Science from the University of Reading, supported by the SAGES Scholarship following academic prizes during his undergraduate studies at the University of Southampton.
Harry collaborates with international organizations, including the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, Centre for Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, and Environmental Social Sciences research groups. His work includes advising governments on UNFCCC reporting, revising EU emissions legislation, and contributing to the UK’s National Atmospheric Emission Inventory (NAEI). His research addresses residual emissions, long-term climate strategies, and the global CO₂ removal gap.
Harry has received the Early Career Researcher Poster Prize (2024) and has been featured in media discussions on climate policy risks and net-zero strategies. His contributions span academic publications, policy engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration across climate science and governance.
