About
Harel Weinstein is a Professor at the Graduate School of Medical Sciences within Weill Cornell Medicine, where he also serves as the Founding Director of the Institute for Computational Biomedicine and Tri-Institutional Professor. His academic journey began with a BSc, MSc, and DSc in Chemistry and Theoretical Physical Chemistry from the Technion, followed by postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University.
- Education: Technion (BSc, MSc, DSc); Johns Hopkins (Postdoc)
Research Focus:
- Quantitative modeling of structure-dynamics-function relationships in membrane proteins, particularly neurotransmitter transporters and molecular motors.
- Pioneering allosteric pathway analysis in GPCRs, TMEM16 scramblases, and transporters to understand long-distance communication in biomolecular systems.
- Developing AI/ML-driven methods for analyzing biomolecular mechanisms in membrane proteins.
- Current work on SARS-CoV-2 molecular mechanisms to design antiviral therapies.
Scientific Awards:
- Dr. Harold and Golden Lamport Professor
- Elected AAAS Fellow
His lab (Lab Website) integrates computational modeling with experimental data to study membrane biophysics, drug design, and disease mechanisms.
