Hans Staudinger (1889-1980) was Professor of Economics at the New School for Social Research, serving as Dean of the Graduate Faculty during the 1940s-1950s. A German émigré, he previously held political roles in Weimar Germany as State Secretary in the Prussian Trade Ministry and SPD Reichstag member.
His research addressed social economy models, public enterprise management, and economic planning. Staudinger co-founded the Council for a Democratic Germany and established the Theodor Heuss Chair. Later, he edited the journal Social Research and endowed a professorial chair.
Honors include the Großes Verdienstkreuz (1959) and Großes Verdienstkreuz mit Stern (1969) from West Germany. The Staudinger Power Station bears his name.
