Dr. Renée T. White is the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at The New School, serving concurrently as a tenured Professor of Sociology at The New School for Social Research. She holds an AB from Brown University and MA/PhD from Yale University, where she received a Mellon Foundation Doctoral Fellowship. Her leadership spans roles as Provost at Wheaton College (2016–2021), Dean of Arts and Sciences at Simmons University (2011–2016), and faculty positions at Fairfield University and Purdue University.
Her research focuses on the intersection of public discourse and social policy, particularly reproductive rights, Black representation in popular culture, and Black feminist theory in higher education leadership. She has authored/edited books like Afrofuturism in Black Panther and Spoils of War, and served as editor of the Journal of HIV/AIDS Prevention. Awards include the National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship and Wye Faculty Fellowship.
