Hans Peter Reutter

Hans Peter Reutter is Professor of Music Theory and Chairman of the Department of Compositional Studies at Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. His creative and scholarly work spans composition, theoretical analysis, and performance across diverse musical traditions.

Reutter's research examines microtonality, polyrhythms, and cross-cultural connections between European classical, jazz, African, and medieval music. As co-founder of Hamburg's Chaosma Ensemble, he pioneers performance practices integrating contemporary techniques with global influences.

He has published on Stravinsky, Ligeti, and 19th-century theory while maintaining an active career as a cabaret performer. Reutter studied composition with György Ligeti and has taught at multiple institutions since 2005.
