Hannes Bernard is a Lecturer in Graphic Design at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK), specifically within the Bachelor Graphic Design programme. He is the founder of SulSolSal, a transcontinental design and research practice based in Amsterdam, Cape Town, and São Paulo. His work integrates cultural, historical, and economic research to create communal spaces, publications, video installations, and performances, critically examining the interplay between design, economics, and societal structures.
After graduating from the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam, Bernard has received notable recognition including a 2016 talent-development grant from the Creative Industries Fund NL and an artist-in-residence position at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. His projects include curating the exhibition Staying Alive for the 4th Istanbul Design Biennial. He has also participated in the KABK Research Groups of 2020 and 2021.
Bernard's practice emphasizes the spectacle of global development and its socio-economic implications, blending academic research with creative output across multiple disciplines.
