Dr. Hanneke Booij is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Stirling’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities, affiliated with the Centre for Environment, Heritage and Policy (CEHP). Her work focuses on heritage organizations, resilience, and sustainability, supported by the ESRC and SGSAH. She holds an MSc in Heritage (University of Stirling, 2018) and MA degrees in History from the University of Amsterdam and Sussex, alongside a BA in HR Management.
Her collaborative PhD with Glasgow Building Preservation Trust explored how small heritage organizations navigate sustainability and resilience. Current projects include a digital citizen’s action initiative in Glasgow’s City Centre, aiming to integrate community perspectives into urban planning. Awards include the SGSAH Hospitalfield Writing Retreat (2022) and a Visiting Fellowship at Norway’s NIKU (2022).
Research highlights include ethnographic studies of heritage practices during the pandemic, comparative work in Norway, and insights into community engagement’s role in heritage policymaking. She has presented widely on heritage sustainability and contributed to workshops like the Scottish-Norwegian Dialogue (2022).
