Miss Jessica Cleary is a part-time PhD Researcher at the University of Stirling's Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research (SCCJR), affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences. Her work focuses on gender-specific needs of criminalised women within Scotland’s community justice systems. She holds an MRes in Applied Social Research (Criminology) and a BA in Criminology and Sociology.

Her research explores policy analysis and frontline worker perspectives to assess how Scotland’s justice frameworks address women’s needs. Notable projects include a socio-legal evaluation for SCCJR (2018) and work on the Independent Care Review’s methodologies (2019). In 2022, she led a Mitacs-funded comparative study on gender in criminal justice systems between Scotland and Quebec.
