Dr. Hannah Frith is an Associate Professor in Psychology at the University of Surrey, affiliated with the School of Psychology and the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. Her research focuses on critical explorations of sexuality, gender, and embodiment, with a particular interest in sexual difficulties, body image, and mental health. She supervises PhD and clinical psychology students and teaches research methods.
Her research interests coalesce into two strands: 1) Critical Sexuality Studies examining the discursive construction of consent, sexual embodiment, and pathologization of sexual difficulties; and 2) Body Image Studies exploring how appearance changes impact identity and mental health. Recent projects include the PAPER Study on clinical psychology placements in homelessness sectors and collaborations on trauma support in South Africa.
Dr. Frith has supervised numerous students, including those exploring transgender youth, aging with disability, and mental health in marginalized communities. Her work bridges psychology with sociology, health sciences, and critical theory. Collaborations include researchers at Newcastle University, the Disabilities Trust, and the University of Liverpool.
