Hal T. Nelson, Ph.D., CFA, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Administration and Director of the Master in Public Policy program at Portland State University's Hatfield School of Government. He holds the endowed Portland Professor title in Environmental and Natural Resource Policy. His educational background includes a Ph.D. in Public Administration & Policy and an M.A. in Political Science from Portland State University, and a B.S. in Finance from the University of Idaho.
Research Focus: Dr. Nelson investigates environmental, social, and economic sustainability in energy systems through quantitative methods and agent-based modeling. His work emphasizes stakeholder engagement in energy project permitting and decarbonization strategies, with applications in public policy and resource management.
