Guy Mark Foster is an Associate Professor of English at Bowdoin College. He holds a PhD in English Literature from Brown University (2003), with earlier degrees from Brown (MA, 1997) and Wheaton College (BA, 1994). His research focuses on intersections of race, gender, and sexuality in African American literature, queer theory, and interdisciplinary cultural studies. He teaches courses including 'Introduction to Black Women's Literature' and 'James Baldwin.'
Foster’s scholarship explores topics like trans* studies in Richard Wright’s work, bisexuality in M/M romance, and the ethics of interracial intimacy in Octavia Butler’s fiction. His 2013 short story collection The Rest of Us and book project Waking Up with the Enemy further cement his contributions to LGBTQ+ and African American literary discourse.
