Assoc Prof Guy Castley is an Associate Professor at Griffith University's School of Environment and Science, specializing in terrestrial ecology, conservation biology, and wildlife management. He serves as Program Director for the EIANZ-accredited Bachelor of Environmental Science degree. With over 30 years of experience, his research focuses on protected area management, threatened species conservation, urban ecology, and citizen science. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and monographs, supervised 21 PhD and 45+ students, and contributed to community-based conservation initiatives like the Glossy Black-Cockatoo Conservancy.
Education: PhD (1997), MSc (1991), BSc (Honours) (1990) from the University of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He previously worked at South African National Parks (1997-2005). Current affiliations include Griffith's Centre for Planetary Health and Food Security and the Environmental Futures Research Institute.
Research interests span landscape ecology, human-wildlife interactions, and conservation technology. Notable awards include the 2024 Pro Vice Chancellor Award for Outstanding Contributions to Student Experience and the 2022 Golden-Tailed Gecko Award.
