Guntram Koch is a Professor of Christian Archaeology and Byzantine Art History at the University of Marburg. He studied Classical Archaeology, Art History, and related disciplines at the University of Göttingen and Athens (1962–1969), completed his doctorate in 1970, and habilitated at Göttingen in 1977. His academic career includes a tenure as a research assistant at the Christian Archaeological Department of Göttingen’s Theological Faculty (1970–1981) before moving to Marburg in 1981.
