Thorben Langer

Thorben Langer is a PhD student and Tutor at the Institute for Digital Humanities, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. He provides student counselling and teaches courses related to digital humanities and archaeology.

Education

• B.A. in Archaeology of the Greek, Roman, and Byzantine World and History (2015–2019), Georg-August-Universität Göttingen
• M.A. in Christian Archaeology and Byzantine Art History with Digital Humanities (2022), Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, including a six-month exchange at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg

Research Interests: Virtuality in humanities, focusing on digital reconstructions of archaeological sites like the Hippodrome of Constantinople in Late Antiquity and the Byzantine era. He explores design, impact, and historical applications of virtual spaces, alongside methodological advancements in 3D digitisation and its interdisciplinary applications.
