Guillermo Íñiguez is a DPhil candidate in European Union Law at the University of Oxford, affiliated with Somerville College. His research focuses on democratic backsliding's impact on EU law, particularly in freedom, security, justice, and the internal market. He holds a First-Class Law degree from the University of Cambridge (Peterhouse) and an LL.M. in European Law from LSE. Previously, he was a legal trainee in the EU General Court under Judge Alexander Kornezov. He teaches EU Law at Harris Manchester College and Roman Law at Somerville College as a Retaining Fee Lecturer, while co-convening the EU Law Discussion Group.
His research interests include constitutional law, internal market law, competition law, and EU sports law. He has published in the German Law Journal and European Papers, and contributes to EU Law Live, analyzing EU governance, sports law, and constitutional challenges. His work spans cases like the European Super League and UEFA regulations, addressing intersections between EU law and football governance.
