Greig Charnock

Greig Charnock is a Lecturer in International Politics at the University of Manchester, part of the Faculty of Humanities. He holds a PhD from the University of Manchester and has taught Global Political Economy since 2004. His research focuses on intersections of global political economy, urban studies, and digital capitalism, with notable work on Barcelona's urban transformation and coworking spaces. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has won prestigious teaching awards in 2021 and 2022.

Research Interests: Greig's work examines digital capitalism's impact on urban development, particularly in Barcelona. He co-edits Capital & Class and URBS, and collaborates with the Coworking Research Collective (CORECOL). Current projects include a book on Barcelona's 22@ Innovation District and post-pandemic coworking spaces.

Advising & Grants: Greig has supervised 6 PhD students across topics like global transformations, urban sociology, and critical theory. He leads the Global Political Economy cluster at Manchester and is affiliated with the Manchester Urban Institute. Recent research includes ESRC-funded studies on UK coworking spaces' post-pandemic trajectories.
