Gregory Reis

Dr. Gregory Reis is an Associate Teaching Professor at the Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences, Florida International University. He also serves as an Environmental Finance Fellow at FIU's Environmental Finance & Risk Management (EFRM) and an Affiliated Faculty in the FIU Institute of Environment. With over 20 years of experience teaching Mathematics and Computer Science, he specializes in early, elderly, and special education pedagogy.

Research Focus

His research spans Marine Robotics (particularly aquatic robot navigation in GPS-denied environments), spatiotemporal ocean dynamics analysis, and environmental monitoring technology development. Additional domains include Artificial Intelligence applications in ecological systems, Data Science for environmental insights, and innovative STEM Education frameworks for K-12 and higher education.

Academic Leadership

He has mentored 50+ students through programs including Science without Borders (Summer Research), NSF REU (Undergraduates), and NSF RET (Teachers). As PI/Co-PI, he secured over $6M in grants from DoD, FDEP, NSF, and CAPES for robotics and environmental research.

Educational Initiatives

As Robotics Coach for Ultimate Software Academy (4+ years), he develops professional training in coding/robotics for Miami-Dade K-12 teachers. He leads curriculum transformation through project-based robotics competitions and promotes STEM accessibility reforms in US/Brazilian education systems.
