About
Anthony Abrahao is a Research Scientist at the Applied Research Center of Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, where he manages the Applied Robotics Laboratory. He oversees, mentors, and collaborates on projects funded by the Department of Energy (DOE-EM, DOE-NETL), Department of Transportation (DOT), and National Science Foundation (NSF).
Education:
- Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Uberlandia, Brazil.
His research specializes in robotic systems for hazardous environments, including robotic crawlers for radioactive waste tank inspection, autonomous mobile platforms for nuclear facility surveillance, UAVs for nondestructive bridge corrosion evaluation, and autonomous concrete repair using ultra-high-performance materials. He also develops 3D printing techniques for bridge components and subsurface mapping for waste disposal cells, bridging robotics, nuclear engineering, and civil infrastructure innovation.
His work is supported by major grants from federal agencies targeting nuclear decommissioning, infrastructure resilience, and advanced construction technologies.
As manager of the Applied Robotics Laboratory, he leads interdisciplinary efforts to deploy robotic solutions for real-world energy, environmental, and infrastructure challenges through FIU's Applied Research Center.
