Dr. Gregory Patterson is Associate Professor of Chinese and Comparative Literature at the University of South Carolina. He serves as Program Director for Chinese Studies and teaches courses in Chinese literature, culture, and comparative literature.
His research focuses on:
- Medieval Chinese poetry (3rd-10th centuries)
- Traditional Chinese literary theory
- Poetry in imperial institutions
- Modern interpretations of classical poetry
Publications examine memory construction in Du Fu's poetry and the cultural significance of imperial poetry anthologies. His forthcoming book analyzes remembrance frameworks in China's late medieval period. Patterson received research support from Fulbright-Hays and Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation.
