Prof Gregory Lee is a Professor of Chinese Studies at the University of St Andrews' School of Modern Languages. His research focuses on China's cultural history, diaspora studies, and premodern thought's application to contemporary issues. He holds a PhD from SOAS University of London (1985), a Diploma in Political Economy from Peking University (1981), and a BA in Chinese from SOAS (1979). Currently, he leads a multi-volume history project on Chinese culture (1976–2025) alongside Research Fellow Amanda Mantong Zhang. His work addresses collective memory, censorship, technological society, and labor ideology.
