Dr. Acevedo's research interests center on how macro-level social issues like globalization, human migration, poverty, and inequality manifest within marginalized communities. His scholarly work examines the political, economic, and socio-cultural well-being of Puerto Ricans and those categorized within Hispanic/Latino/Latina/Latinx identities. He has particular expertise in the settlement house movement in London and New York City, community-engaged teaching methods, and community-based research in the Bronx, New York. His approach consistently connects theoretical frameworks with practical community applications.
His recent publications reveal a strong thematic connection between immigration policy, social welfare systems, and community support structures. The 2024 study on young Londoners' emotional support during the cost-of-living crisis demonstrates his international comparative perspective, while his 2020 chapter on Latinx identity through immigration policy illustrates his deep engagement with U.S. policy frameworks affecting Latinx communities.
