Greg Toner is a Professor at Queen's University Belfast in the School of Arts, English and Languages, Department of Modern Languages. He specializes in digital scholarship in Celtic Studies, medieval Irish language and literature, and computational methods for textual analysis. Previously, he held roles at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and the University of Ulster, where he was Professor of Irish Language and Literature from 2006 to 2011.
Research & Projects:
- Director of the AHRC-funded eDIL project for digitizing the Dictionary of Old and Middle Irish (www.dil.ie).
- Led a Leverhulme-funded project applying machine learning to date medieval Irish texts.
- Co-edited volumes such as Celtic Cosmology and Ulidia 3.
Teaching & Contributions:
- Teaches Modern Irish poetry, medieval literature, and Celtic mythology.
- Developed CAPAILL, interactive Irish-language exercises.
- Established the Centre for Excellence in Multimedia Language Learning.
Awards & Affiliations:
- Member of the Royal Irish Academy.
- Honorary General Editor of the Irish Texts Society.
