Greg Buchak is an Associate Professor of Finance at Stanford Graduate School of Business with secondary appointments as Center Fellow at Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research and Faculty Research Fellow at National Bureau of Economic Research. He holds a PhD in Financial Economics and JD from University of Chicago, and BS/BA degrees from University of Pennsylvania.
His research focuses on:
- Industrial organization of financial intermediation
- Fintech innovation and regulatory impacts
- Consumer finance and credit markets
- Political economy of financial regulation
- Technological disruption in banking
His recent publications examine shadow banking systems, fintech entry, mortgage markets, and pandemic economic responses, consistently focusing on regulatory-technology interactions. He has received prestigious awards including Winnick Family Faculty Scholar and AQR Top Finance Graduate Award.
He teaches graduate courses in:

Prior to academia, he worked as quantitative portfolio manager at Goldman Sachs and Royal Bank of Canada.
