Dr. Golden Wright serves as Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication at Lamar University, having previously chaired the Theater and Dance department. She began her career at Lamar in 2006 as a visiting lecturer, progressed to tenure-track assistant professor, earned tenure as associate professor, and achieved full Professor rank concurrent with her doctorate in educational leadership from the university. An alumna of Lamar, she embodies institutional loyalty as a "Card" (Lamar alum and employee).
Her educational journey culminated in a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lamar University. She recently chaired the university's Centennial celebration, uniting students, alumni, faculty, and the Southeast Texas community under a vision emphasizing regional inclusivity beyond Beaumont.
Dr. Wright's creative scholarship centers on contemporary dance and choreography, evidenced by her active performance schedule and recent half-time show direction for the university band. She integrates arts practice with educational leadership, focusing on community engagement through university events and donor initiatives. Her work bridges performance art with academic administration, maintaining hands-on involvement in student-facing activities despite executive responsibilities.
As a pillar of Lamar's campus life, she participates extensively in athletic events, donor appreciation functions, and artistic productions. Her leadership in the Centennial celebration demonstrated cross-campus collaboration with administrators, faculty, and community figures including Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan, highlighting her role in shaping institutional identity and external relations.
