Glorieuse Uwizeye

Glorieuse Uwizeye, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing, Western University. She holds a PhD from the University of Illinois Chicago, and advanced nursing degrees from the University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. Her research focuses on intergenerational health effects of exposure to socio-political violence, particularly genocide and genocidal rape, exploring epigenetic mechanisms linking prenatal trauma to adult health outcomes. She also investigates global health equity through nursing education and healthcare workforce development in Rwanda.

Dr. Uwizeye’s work bridges epidemiology, trauma studies, and public health policy. Her studies on descendants of genocide survivors and victims of genocidal rape in Rwanda highlight long-term mental and physical health consequences. She has contributed to initiatives rebuilding healthcare systems in post-conflict settings and enhancing nursing/midwifery education through international collaborations. Current research includes randomized controlled trials on acupuncture for angina and pandemic-era maternal mental health.

Her articles emphasize themes of health equity, trauma resilience, and innovative interventions in under-resourced populations. Grants and projects include collaborations with Rwanda’s Human Resources for Health Program, focusing on capacity-building and skill transfer. Dr. Uwizeye’s scholarship aims to inform policies addressing systemic health inequalities exacerbated by historical and ongoing violence.
