About
Glen Whitehead is Chair and Professor of Music in the Visual and Performing Arts department at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS), where he co-directs the Bachelor of Innovation™ program. He founded UCCS's interdisciplinary Music Program in 2006 and developed degree tracks in Creative Music Performance & Technology and Composition & Sound Design. His affiliations include leadership of the EcoSono Institute (as Director of Performance) and Peak FreQuency Creative Arts (as Artistic Director), along with visiting artist positions at over 10 international institutions.
His research explores:
- Ecoacoustic music and environmental soundscapes
- Interdisciplinary arts bridging technology and culture
- Trumpet performance and experimental composition
- Sonic theatre and improvisational phenomena
Awards include the Innovations in Teaching with Technology Award from UCCS and the Big Idea Award from Pikes Peak Arts Council for collaborative dance projects. He advises students through private instruction and capstone thesis supervision.
He directs the EcoSono Institute's performance initiatives and Peak FreQuency Creative Arts, facilitating cross-disciplinary projects between music, technology, and environmental studies.
