Dr Giuliano Maielli is a Reader in Organisation Studies and Head of the Department of Business and Society at Queen Mary University of London's School of Business and Management. His research focuses on business history, organisation studies, and technological innovation, particularly exploring path-dependence, design hierarchies, and Industry 4.0. He has been awarded the Coleman Prize for his PhD thesis on Fiat's technological strategies (2003).
His teaching includes modules on new product development for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. He supervises doctoral candidates Shabee UL Haq and Hafiza Sultana, and previously advised Soo Jung Oh as a second supervisor. Maielli's work spans academic journals such as Business History and Technological Forecasting and Change, addressing topics like global value chains, platform innovation, and organisational learning.
As a member of the Organisational Processes and Practices Research Group (OPPRG), he contributes to interdisciplinary research on innovation dynamics and strategic management. His recent studies analyze the interplay between technological platforms and geographical innovation dispersion, reflecting his commitment to advancing understanding of modern industrial ecosystems.
