Franco Mariuzzo

Franco Mariuzzo is an Associate Professor in Econometrics at the School of Economics, University of East Anglia, where he is also a member of the Centre for Competition Policy and the Industrial Economics research group. He currently serves as Director of Impact, Innovation and Outreach and as an associate editor for Economic Inquiry.

His research focuses on empirical industrial organisation and competition policy, with additional interests in economic history and the economics of digital platforms. Key research areas include cartels, horizontal mergers, innovation, market concentration, impact evaluation, and platform competition.

Recent publications span topics such as retail petroleum markets, antibacterial resistance, technology gaps and income inequality, and platform competition in digital markets. His work appears in leading journals including Journal of Industrial Economics, International Journal of Industrial Organization, and Economic Inquiry.

Mariuzzo has led research projects for the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Financial Regulatory Council, and co-investigated projects for the European Commission. He provides consultancy to the South Africa Competition Commission and previously advised the Philippine Competition Commission and the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority. He is accepting PhD students in competition policy and industrial organisation.

He has held prior teaching roles at the University of Padova and Amedeo Avogadro University of Eastern Piedmont, now concluded.
