Dr. Giulia Cardillo is an Associate Professor of Italian and Coordinator of the Italian Program at James Madison University. She holds a Ph.D. in Italian Language and Literature from Yale University and an M.A. in Italian Studies from the University of Notre Dame. Her research focuses on Early Modern literature, including Dante’s Commedia, Boccaccio’s Decameron, and medieval concepts like Terra Australis. She also explores networks of women writers and the interplay between literary and visual arts. Currently, she is co-editing a volume on Imagined Networks in Pre-Modern Italian Literature with Dr. Buonocore, set for publication in late 2024.
She teaches courses such as Italian Intermediate 1, Italian Civilization, Introduction to Italian Literature, Medieval Storytelling, Italian Theatre, and Short Stories in 20th/21st-Century Italian Literature. Her scholarly work engages with figures like Michelangelo, Tasso, and Luisa Bergalli, blending literary analysis with interdisciplinary perspectives.
