Dr. Giulia Bonasio is an Associate Professor in the Department of Classics and Ancient History at Durham University, specializing in ancient ethics and epistemology. Her research focuses on Aristotle’s Eudemian Ethics, virtue ethics, and the intersection of ancient epistemology with contemporary AI. She holds a PhD in Classical Studies from Columbia University and previously taught at the University of King’s College (Canada) and was affiliated with Dalhousie University.

Research Interests: Dr. Bonasio explores Aristotle’s ethical theories, particularly the unity of virtues in the Eudemian Ethics, and their relevance to modern debates. She also investigates ancient Greek literature, including lyric poetry and tragedy, as well as the history of emotions. Her cross-disciplinary work bridges ancient philosophy with contemporary AI ethics.
Publications & Projects: Her upcoming monograph, The Unity of the Virtues in the Eudemian Ethics (Oxford UP, 2025), reinterprets Aristotle’s ethical framework. She is co-editing a volume on Perspectives on Wisdom (De Gruyter) integrating ancient, Islamic, Buddhist, and neuroscience perspectives. Recent articles analyze natural goods, pleasure in ethics, and tragic passions.
Awards & Fellowships: She served as Guest Professor at the University of Zurich’s Zentrum Altertumswissenschaften and Senior Fellow at the Collegium Helveticum (2022).
Advising & Grants: Supervises doctoral research on ancient Greek/Roman philosophy, including Aristotle’s ethics. Her grants and collaborations include editing projects and cross-cultural wisdom studies.
