Giorgio Riello is Professor and Chair of Early Modern Global History at the European University Institute, specializing in global history, material culture, and economic history. Awarded the World History Association Bentley Book Prize (2014) and Philip Leverhulme Prize (2011), his research examines textiles, luxury goods, and global trade networks from the 16th to 19th centuries.
Riello leads the ERC Advanced Grant project 'CAPASIA' investigating Asian origins of global capitalism. His publications analyze commodity exchanges between Europe and Asia, material culture of diplomacy, and sumptuary laws in global perspective.
