Gill Newton

Gill Newton is a Visiting Research Affiliate at the Cambridge Group for the History of Population and Social Structure (CAMPOP) and currently collaborates with the University of Strathclyde Business School. Her research leverages large-scale historical datasets to analyze demographic and economic behaviors across UK regions, focusing on micro-geographical and regional patterns from early modern to 19th-century contexts.

Newton specializes in reconstructing historical population dynamics through record linkage techniques. Her work spans:

• Demographic shifts in early modern London, including disease environments and marriage patterns.
• Economic behaviors such as entrepreneurship, occupational structures, and Poor Law expenditures.
• Regional UK analyses, notably 19th-century Glasgow entrepreneurs and institutional populations.
