About
Dr. George Youssef is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at San Diego State University (SDSU), affiliated with the College of Engineering. His research focuses on the mechanical behavior of polymers, composites, and multiferroic materials under various strain rates and environmental conditions. He leads the Experimental Mechanics Laboratory (EML), which explores advanced manufacturing, material characterization, and energy absorption technologies.
Education:
- Ph.D., Solid Mechanics, UCLA (2010)
- M.S., Structural and Solid Mechanics, UCLA (2009)
- M.S., System Dynamics and Controls, CSUN (2007)
- B.S., Mechanical Engineering, CSUN (2005)
Research Interests: Polymer mechanics, composite materials, additive manufacturing, auxetic materials, multiferroic systems, shock absorption, and material characterization using advanced techniques like terahertz spectroscopy.
Publications: Over 100 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on topics like auxetic metamaterials, 3D-printed composites, and polyurea foams. Recent work includes studies on cellulose acetate from cigarette waste and novel bioresins for biomedical applications.
