George WONG

George WONG is an Assistant Professor of Sociology (Education) at the School of Social Sciences, Singapore Management University (SMU), and Coordinator of the Global Asia second major programme. He holds a PhD in Sociology from Nanyang Technological University (2022), an MA in Sociology (2017), and a BSocSc in Political Science & Sociology from SMU (2014). His research focuses on urban regime analysis, state-sponsored grassroots organizations, and the interplay between capital, communities, and cities in Asian contexts.

• Research Interests: Urban political ecology, eco-cities development, community power dynamics, and philanthropic capital in urban development.
• Teaching: Courses include Urban and Political Sociology, Anthropocene Asia, and Deconstructing Singapore Society.

His work bridges academic research and community engagement, emphasizing ethnographic methods and collaborative urban solutions. He actively participates in community organizing, studying grassroots actions and co-creating solutions for sustainable urban futures in Singapore and beyond.
