George Larke-Walsh is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Sunderland. He holds a PhD from the University of Sunderland (2002) and has prior experience at the University of Northumbria, UK, and the University of North Texas, USA. His research focuses on crime representation in media, including gangster narratives, mafia mythologies, and the social impact of true crime documentaries. He currently explores adaptation in true crime texts and media psychology related to screen gangsters. He is also involved in an AHRC-funded project (starting 2024) studying crime narratives at UK prison museums. His teaching includes modules such as MED125 History of Cinema and FIL207 Screening Nations.

Research Interests: Examines how media shape perceptions of crime, masculinity, and ethnicity. Explores documentary ethics, emotional engagement, and the social purpose of true crime content. Current projects include analyzing gangster TV series and prison museum narratives.
Grants & Collaborations: Co-investigator on an AHRC bid to study crime narratives at UK prison museums (2024).
