Jennifer Rainbow

Jennifer Rainbow is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Sheffield Hallam University (College of Social Sciences and Arts). She researches prisons, gender-based violence, and criminal justice systems, with expertise in comparative analysis of sexual violence prosecution.

Her research examines gender dynamics in criminal justice, media representations of crime, and sexual violence prosecution in international contexts. She explores how masculinity is constructed in media crime narratives and analyzes barriers to justice for victims of gender-based violence.

Her publications critically analyze the intersections of gender, media, and crime, particularly regarding sexual violence and prison environments. This work contributes to understanding how societal narratives shape perceptions of crime and justice.

Dr. Rainbow co-founded the Sheffield Hallam University Genders Network and teaches courses on criminological theory, sex and violence, and comparative criminal justice. She engages in international research collaborations examining justice systems globally.
