Dr. George Kunnath is an Associate Professor (Education) and Lifelong Engagement Lead at the International Inequalities Institute (III) at LSE. He leads the Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity (AFSEE) programme and contributes to the Politics of Inequality Research programme. His work focuses on the relationality of inequality, conflict, and peacebuilding in the Global South, particularly examining intersections of race, caste, class, gender, and ethnicity. He has conducted ethnographic research with Dalit and Adivasi communities in India and peacebuilding initiatives in Colombia.
Education: PhD in Social Anthropology from SOAS, University of London. Former roles include Lecturer in Modern Indian Studies at the University of Oxford, Director of Graduate Studies for the Contemporary South Asian Studies Programme, and research fellowships at institutions including Goldsmiths College and Wolfson College (Oxford). He has over 17 years of teaching experience across LSE, SOAS, and others.
Current research includes a project analyzing Colombia's 2016 Peace Agreement implementation through Indigenous, Afro-Colombian, and LGBTQ+ perspectives, and a UK-focused study on racial wealth divides among South Asian diasporas. He also collaborates on capacity-building programs for conflict-affected Colombian communities.
Advising & Grants: Principal Investigator for AFSEE and KEI-funded projects. Collaborates with Prof. Mike Savage on UK wealth disparity research. Welcomes PhD students interested in his thematic areas.
Labs/Teams: Core member of III's Politics of Inequality team. Affiliated with Colombia-based research networks and UK interdisciplinary wealth studies initiatives.
