Prof. Angelika Rettberg is an Associate Professor at the Political Science Department of Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia) and a Visiting Fellow at the GIGA Institute for Latin American Studies. She co-directs the Transformation and Empowerment Stream of the LSE-led UKRI-funded Hub on Gender, Security, and Justice. Her research focuses on armed conflict dynamics, post-war crime, transitional justice, and the political economy of conflict and criminality, particularly in Latin America.
Her work examines business behavior during armed conflict and peacebuilding, the relationship between legal resources and conflict, and the interplay between armed conflict and criminal networks. Key projects include the AvH-funded 'War Economies and Postwar Crime' (2015–2019), analyzing post-conflict crime transitions.
Rettberg has published widely on Colombian conflict contexts, including gold mining's role in conflict and frameworks linking resource types to conflict patterns. Her recent edited volume (2019) and journal contributions (2018) explore war economies' long-term impacts on criminality and post-war societal structures.
She has lectured internationally, including at GIGA Talks on Colombia's peace negotiations. No specific awards are listed, but her ongoing academic leadership and research contributions highlight her influence in conflict studies.
