George F. Sawaya

George F. Sawaya is a Professor in the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), holding the Robert B. Domush MD Endowed Chair in Obstetric and Gynecologic Education. He serves as the Director of the Colposcopy and Cervical Dysplasia Clinic at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, focusing on clinical services such as colposcopy, cytology follow-up, on-site cryotherapy, and surgical consultations for cervical dysplasia.

• Education: B.A. in Chemistry from Hendrix College (1985), M.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (1990), Residency in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at UCSF (1990-1994), Fellowship in Clinical Research Methods, Epidemiology, and Biostatistics at UCSF (1996).

His research centers on cervical cancer screening and population-based strategies for prevention. He has received multiple teaching awards, including the Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award (2015-2016), Academic Senate Distinction in Teaching Award (2007), and the "Excellence in Small Group Instruction" award (1998). He also earned the Rhonda Goldman Research Award (1997) for his work at Mount Zion Health Systems.
