Geoffrey Swenson is a Professor of International Politics at City St George's, University of London, where he serves as Deputy Head of Department. He is also a British Academy Mid-Career Fellow for 2023–24, Trustee of the British International Studies Association, and External Affiliate of the Ostrom Workshop at Indiana University.
Geoffrey holds a
- DPhil in International Relations from the University of Oxford (Clarendon Scholar)
- MA in Comparative Ethnic Conflict from Queen's University Belfast (Mitchell Scholar)
- JD from Stanford Law School
- BA from Grinnell College
His research focuses on post-conflict reconstruction, state-building, democracy, legal pluralism, and the role of foreign aid in international relations. He actively supervises PhD theses in these areas and explores theoretical frameworks for understanding global governance and legal integration.
Geoffrey has held fellowships at the London School of Economics, Stanford University, Oxford University, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and the Eurasia Group Foundation. His professional experience includes roles as an international program manager and founder of the Timor-Leste Legal Education Project.
