Geert-Jan Will

Geert-Jan Will is a Research Fellow at the Clinical Psychology unit within the Institute of Psychology at Leiden University. His work focuses on adolescence, computational psychiatry, and developmental cognitive neuroscience, with expertise in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), self-esteem, social decision making, and social rejection.

Research Focus: He investigates the neural mechanisms underlying self-esteem development in adolescent depression and the impact of emotional maltreatment on the developing brain. His RE-PAIR project examines neural responses to parental criticism and praise in depressed adolescents.

Publications: His recent work in Psychological Medicine (2023) explores affective and neural dynamics in parent-adolescent interactions related to depression.
